Need to pay taxes?

In accordance with Executive Order 14247, the IRS is transitioning to mandatory electronic payments. You can no longer mail a check to pay your taxes. They also will not mail you a check if you are receiving a refund.

Most states are following suit and have added online payment portals for tax payers.

Use this step-by-step guide to make sure your payments are recorded correctly for tax year 2025.


IRS Tax Payments:

Pay what you owe using an online payment option and check the box that you are paying as your balance due. As an alternative to using this link, you can also set up your ID.me account with the IRS and pay taxes, view payments made, download account transcripts, and more.

Go to this website - https://www.irs.gov/payments

  • Click on your desired payment method (bank ACH or credit card).

  • Click on pay individual income tax.

  • Click on make a payment (blue button)

  • Reason for payment is Balance Due, apply payment to Income Tax - Form 1040, and tax period payment is year 2025.

  • Enter your personal information from your 2024 tax return to verify your identity.

  • Enter your payment amount and payment method detail.

  • Make sure to enter your email to receive an emailed confirmation.

  • Print the confirmation for your records (as a back up to the emailed confirmation).

Oregon Tax Payments:

Pay what you owe using an online payment option and check the box that you are paying as your balance due. As an alternative to using this link, you can also set up your Revenue Online account to pay taxes, view payments made, download account transcripts, and more. Enable Third Party Access to allow your tax preparer to view your infomation as well.

  • Click on Pay Online (blue button)

  • Enter your personal details (paying as an individual with a SSN). Click on Next.

  • Leave No selected for Bill Payment. Click on Next.

  • Enter Personal Income Tax for Account Type.

  • Enter Return Payment for Payment Type.

  • Enter Annual for Filing Frequency.

  • Enter 2025 for the Tax Year.

  • Enter your payment amount and payment method detail.

  • Print the confirmation for your records (as a back up to the emailed confirmation).

Most state tax payment systems are similiar to this set up, so use this as a guide for other states as well.
